Fashion Intervention with Gabriela Galván

Artist Gabriela Galván presents Fashion Intervention, a live, participatory performance taking place inside the exhibition Second Skin, curated by Estrellita Brodsky at Southampton Arts Center. For this activation, Gabriela transforms the front gallery into an open studio, inviting the public to witness and participate in her creative process.

During the event, Gabriela invites visitors to bring a piece of clothing they would otherwise discard. Through live intervention, she transforms each garment, encouraging reflection on sustainability, consumer habits, and the emotional relationship we have with the clothes we wear. Her work creates intimate moments of connection while promoting ecological awareness and cross-cultural dialogue.

Artist Bio

Gabriela Galván is a multidisciplinary artist whose work centers on the concept of transformation. Working across installation, public art, sculpture, drawing, design, performance, and video, she develops site-specific projects grounded in research and her understanding of cultural and ecological relationships.

Her practice is deeply rooted in sustainability, using space, materials, and objects with care to encourage sensorial, participatory experiences across different ages and cultures. Her work refuses fixed form, existing instead as a living, evolving process.

Currently, Gabriela’s work explores live flowers and plants as a medium, furthering her investigation into growth, impermanence, and the poetic potential of living materials.
