Mountainfilm on Tour is coming to Southampton, bringing a selection of culturally rich, adventure-packed, and inspiring documentary films curated from the Mountainfilm festival held every Memorial Day weekend in Telluride, Colorado.
Held at the Southampton Arts Center on Sunday, September 6, the screenings will explore themes connected to Mountainfilm’s mission: to use the power of film, art, and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world.
Mountainfilm on Tour in Southampton is hosted by Elyn Kronemeyer in partnership with Southampton Arts Center, which has organized Mountainfilm on Tour for twelve years and works to build community through the arts. The organization believes in presenting inspiring and thought-provoking programming to the East End community. While presenting an inspiring film collection, the show also serves as an opportunity to fundraise for the Southampton Arts Center Film Program.
FILMS
AIRTIME (7 minutes) Directors Alex Clapin and Griffen Elsley
Airtime explores the intersection of winter sports, flight, and freedom. Blending skiing, snowboarding, speedflying and paragliding, this film captures the beauty of the Sea to Sky region of British Columbia, and the spirit of athletes pushing creative and physical boundaries.
LESTER Directors Paul Collins
“The faster you go, the less that you see. Why don’t you slow down and cruise like me?” At 83 years old, Lester still lives his passions as an artist, surfer, and craftsman. The film celebrates an appreciation for strolling, reading, making music, and painting — the antithesis of the mainstream American ethos to go faster and get more. See the world anew as you walk with Lester through an inspiringly and intentionally slow-paced life.
WHEELCHAIR MAFIA (2 minutes) Directors Cade and Malvina Martin
Michael Banks helps dogs who have been injured by building “doggie wheelchairs” which give them freedom and a second chance.
BORROWED FROM THE EARTH (15 minutes) Director Zack Johnson
Borrowed From the Earth tells the story of the powerful connection between the Blackfeet people and horses, and how that life-giving relationship remains alive today. Throughout their histories, both horse and Indigenous people have been corralled — horses by fences and Indigenous people onto reservations. Yet centuries-long attempts to subdue both ultimately strengthened the bond between them.
